iPhone 5 release date: Will Apple iPhone 5 features defeat Samsung Galaxy S3?

The Apple iPhone 5 release date is not here yet, but the demand for the new iPhone has already brought scarcity. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is aiming for a new record. Sales of the Samsung Galaxy S3 are currently “galactic” and the outlook is rosy. Recently, sources have reported that 20 million S3 devices have been sold. Of course, the IT giant from South Korea wants more: On Thursday, it was reported that Samsung expects 30 million will be sold by the end of 2012.

However, Samsung’s hopes may be dashed thanks to the iPhone 5, which was presented at the keynote in San Francisco a few days ago. For the first time in iPhone history, it has a larger screen but does not challenge the display of the Galaxy S3, which is 4.8 inches. Although the increase to 4 inches is a “mediocre” increase, it will appeal to many users. The touch screen is probably the most visible change in the iPhone 5, otherwise Apple has remained faithful to the traditional iPhone outward appearance.

On the official website of Apple it can be seen that pre-orders of the iPhone 5 are in high demand and consumers now have to wait a little longer for delivery: From two to three weeks. Although the iPhone 5 was produced in desolate supplier companies (in the case of Foxconn), it stands to reason that Apple will sell 10 million smartphones in a few days. The official launch of the new device is on Sept. 21, and the current reports of scarcity seem to almost assure long lines will be formed in front of the Apple stores.

Apple and Samsung: The eternal rivals?

Although the iPhone 5 will be a huge success, by no means will Apple completely control the smartphone market. Samsung as well as HTC, Motorola, Nokia, LG and other manufacturers all want a piece of the pie. But in any case, Samsung has managed to offer the greatest threat to the iPhone with its various Galaxy models. The rest of competition is hoping to steal some of the iPhone 5′s glory in the next few months when they release their phones on the market.

The iPhone 5 comes with a powerful A6 processor and Apple promises twice the speed of the iPhone 4S. In regards to the iPhone 5, the support of LTE (4G) has continuously been speculated and finally has been confirmed. Perhaps the iPhone 5 will be a major boost for the worldwide spread of LTE, which is currently still in its infancy stage.

The dock connector of the iPhone 5 is smaller, and many saw this as bad news. Previously there were speculations of this, and on Wednesday it became official. Apple also introduced iOS 6, the new version of its mobile operating system. The YouTube app as well as Google Maps is now banished and replaced by Apple’s own mapping service.

At first glance, you may find it disappointing that the iPhone 5 “only” has a 8 megapixel camera. It was always thought that the new iPhone would be equipped with a 12 megapixel camera, but new features such as a panorama function and the ability to “rectify” in non-ideal lighting conditions offer some consolation.

iPhone 5 without NFC

Apple waived the NFC feature, despite the persistent rumors suggesting the new iPhone would have it. Although NFC plays virtually no role in everyday life, competitors like Nokia, Sony and LG are struggling with NFC-enabled accessories such as speakers, just to create appropriate scenarios. While others have respected NFC and have taken the plunge into the cold water, Apple still has shown no interest.

It is no doubt that many will agree the iPhone 5 is a good smartphone: but is it better than the Galaxy S3? Many analysts are saying that the Galaxy S3 can do anything that the Apple iPhone 5 can do, perhaps even better. However, this debate will be put to rest when the iPhone 5 release date arrives next Friday.

Mom, teen son tied up, kick male from dating site, authorities say

The span was arrested early Saturday morning after authorities perceived a tip from someone during a motel where they were staying. New Port Richey military were called to a scene, and a span incited themselves in.

Bobbie Jo Curtis met a 44-year-old male on a dating site, who invited her and her son to live with him. After about a week, a mom and son tied adult and kick a man, according to a Sheriff’s Office statement. The suspects and a third unclear lady afterwards stole equipment from a home, including guns.

The unclear male suffered vicious head injuries and was in vicious condition. A third think stays during large.

“We will not stop until she’s arrested,” Sheriff Chris Nocco pronounced during a news conference. “We do not wish any some-more violence. We wish her to spin herself in peacefully. The walls are shutting in.”

Authorities did not immediately contend either a conflict was plotted before a mom and son went to live with a victim. Nocco cautioned residents when they use Internet dating sites.

“Be clever with who we are articulate to,” he said. “You don’t know who is on a other end.”

SINGAPORE: Single-parent families and the challenges they face have been the subject of much discussion, after a TV forum with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

At the constituency level, grassroots too have been helping single-parent families cope.

The number of cases of single-parent families in need of help is not large, and the cases brought up at the Meet-the-People sessions are often those who need assistance with homes and schools, say MPs whom Channel NewsAsia spoke to.

Hri Kumar, MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, said: “It’s a difficult issue but I don’t think we should be afraid of making exceptions…Families who have mothers or fathers who are single parents not through choices but through unhappy circumstances – we should help them and we should not forget that the child’s welfare is paramount.”

“The mother and child would have to move on in life and society has to provide that sort of support for both the mother and child,” said Ms Ellen Lee, MP for Sembawang GRC. “If people are important to us, the illegitimate child is also important to us.”

“The issue is: should we be assisting them to make their life just a little bit easier? Should we be looking for ways for the single mum, who has never been married, to have as much assistance in raising her children as another mum who is married? The numbers are not large, the problems are not left to hang. There are a lot of community resource we can bring to bear,” said Dr Janil Puthucheary, MP for Pasir Ris-Pungggol GRC.

Grassroots bodies have several programmes to help single-parent families in need.

“We are working very closely with the community because at the end of the day, we want to have community befrienders who actually befriend these families so that whenever they need help, we are able to activate the national scheme or local scheme,” said Dr Teo Ho Pin, MP for Bukit Panjang GRC.

“We try to ensure that the kids continue to remain in school and the mother has a stable job to ensure that the family continues to be stable,” added Mr Zainudin Nordin, MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

The MPs said the ongoing Our Singapore Conversation is expected to be a lively platform to discuss future trends in single parenthood.

“The National Conversation is a very good opportunity for us to get a very good feel of the pulse of Singapore society going forward and then that would probably move into the situation where we review policies such as maternity, housing affecting singles and single families,” said Mr Desmond Lee, MP for Jurong GRC.

The dialogues are expected to take place both at the national and local constituency levels.

Nintendo today revealed full details about how the new Wii U™ home console and its groundbreaking touch-screen Wii U GamePad controller can revolutionize not only video game play but also the way people find and watch TV and video content. The new HD system will offer entirely new ways for consumers to play games and enjoy their favorite programming when it launches in the Americas on Nov. 18. During the launch window, more than 50 games will be available for Wii U, which will be offered in two different colors and configurations. Using the GamePad controller, Nintendo TVii lets viewers seamlessly explore available video content from a variety of sources – including live TV, their TiVo DVR and video-on-demand services such as Netflix – all in one easy-to-use interface.
Additionally, Nintendo shared new information about dozens of games on the way for Wii U, including Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros.™ U, LEGO® City: Undercover, BAYONETTA 2, The Wonderful 101™, Capcom’s Monster Hunter™ 3 Ultimate and Activision’s Call of Duty®: Black Ops II. New Super Mario Bros. U offers unprecedented ways for friends and families to play together and explore Mario’s world using the GamePad. Nintendo Land, which will be available as a standalone game or included with the Wii U Deluxe Set, is a virtual theme park featuring a lineup of 12 playable attractions based on Nintendo’s greatest game worlds, including The Legend of Zelda™, Metroid™, Mario™, Animal Crossing™ and Donkey Kong™. As an added bonus for consumers, a Chase McCain LEGO minifigure will come as a special pre-order bonus for those who pre-order a copy of LEGO City: Undercover at participating retailers while supplies last. The Wii U Basic Set includes a white Wii U console with 8 GB of internal storage, one white GamePad controller, AC adapters for both the console and controller, a sensor bar and an HDMI® cable. In the Wii U Deluxe Set, components are black. This bundle includes all elements from the Basic Set, as well as the Nintendo Land game, increased console storage capacity of 32 GB, a console stand, GamePad charging cradle and a stand that allows users to place the GamePad vertically on a table. Consumers who purchase the Deluxe Set also will be enrolled in the Deluxe Digital Promotion, which lets Wii U owners receive points for each digital download and redeem those points for future downloadable content from the Nintendo eShop. Police: Mother, son kick adult male from dating site

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) – A mom and her 16-year-old son are indicted of restraining adult and violence a Pasco County male a lady met on a dating site.

Jail annals uncover 40-year-old Bobbie Jo Curtis and her son are being hold on wrong imprisonment, aggravated battery, attempted carnage and grand burglary automobile charges. Their initial coming is Sunday morning. It’s not famous if they have an attorney.

Authorities contend Curtis met a 44-year-old male on a dating site. He invited her and her son to live with him and after a week, authorities contend they tied adult and kick a victim. The suspects and a third lady afterwards stole equipment from a home, including guns.

The unclear male suffered vicious conduct injuries and stays in vicious condition. A third think stays during large.

EU’s Single Bank Supervisor Plan Runs into Trouble

NICOSIA, Cyprus–Europe’s plan for a new single bank supervisor hit its first major road block Saturday, with a number of countries saying that a proposed Jan. 1 2013 launch date left too little time to resolve key issues thrown up by the plan.

On the second day of a meeting of European Union finance ministers in Cyprus, at least four ministers voiced opposition to the supervisor’s start date — including the German, Swedish, Dutch and Danish ministers — said two people familiar with the discussion.

iPhone 5 Delivery Date Rises To 2 Weeks

NEW YORK (AP) — Delivery times climbed quickly as Apple Inc. started taking orders for the iPhone 5 on Friday, suggesting strong demand.

Apple began taking orders for the phone at 12 a.m. Pacific time, promising delivery by next Friday, when the new phone also goes on sale in stores.

Four hours later, the expected delivery time had grown to two weeks, according to Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White.

White said the quick rise in the expected delivery time suggests much stronger demand than Apple expected. Last year, one-week delivery of the iPhone 4S was available into the afternoon of the first order day.

“Clearly, iPhone 5 fever is in full swing,” White said.

ATT and Sprint was still promising delivery by next Friday, while Verizon Wireless was promising delivery on Sept. 26.

Apple’s stock rose $12.98, or 1.9 percent, to $695.96 in midday trading, hitting an all-time high.

Casilla’s single puts fun in Giants’ win

Phoenix —

As the Giants celebrated a 6-2 victory over Arizona that moved them that much closer to a division title, explosions could be heard outside the clubhouse.

Was it the gods cackling at Santiago Casilla’s RBI single? Couldn’t have been. They would have been drowned out by all the cackling from within the clubhouse. Maybe it was postgame fireworks.

In a win that featured a Hunter Pence grand slam, a game-saving defensive play and three hits from a refreshed Pablo Sandoval, Matt Cain’s 14th victory and more shutdown work by Bruce Bochy’s engorged bullpen, Casilla was the one who got the lineup card, and not for his 1 1/3 shutout innings.

With the bases loaded in the eighth, Casilla grounded a single into right field against Matt Lindstrom to score Buster Posey and extend a 5-1 lead.

Pitchers get hits. They are, after all, athletes, but there was good reason for Bochy to say, “I think we were all shocked that he even made contact.”

In Casilla’s first official big-league at-bat earlier this season at Milwaukee, he looked so bad hacking and bailing as he struck out, the video has become a YouTube sensation.

Bochy wanted Casilla to take pitches Friday. Casilla had other ideas after taking strike one – with a huge bail into the bucket. Then, using Gregor Blanco’s bat, a prayer and permission from Bochy, he swung at the 0-1 pitch and singled.

“In Milwaukee I tried to pull the ball,” Casilla said. “This time I tried to go the other way, like Posey.”

Parker Posey?

“It was a good at-bat,” Casilla said earnestly. Jeremy Affeldt begged to differ.

Asked to assess Casilla’s approach at the plate, Affeldt said, “Which pitch? The one where he stepped into their dugout or the one where he got the hit? He looked like someone was trying to kill him at the plate.”

You could tell it was Casilla’s first professional hit. Even though he hit it into the outfield he ran past first base rather than rounding it, then hurriedly high-stepped back.

“Who panics after they run to the bag after a base hit?” Affeldt wondered.

Casilla told Affeldt that if they are on different teams next year and they meet, he’ll get a hit off the left-hander.

“If that happens,” Affeldt said, “I’ll take my uniform top off, walk off the mound and retire.”

As hitting coach Hensley Meulens walked out of the clubhouse, Casilla asked him, “Early work tomorrow?”

That was all fun and games. A bigger deal for the Giants was Pence’s third-inning grand slam off Tyler Skaggs, the third of his career, which gave him 34 RBIs in 41 games as a Giant. Bigger yet might have been the double and two singles from Sandoval, plus his highlight-reel defensive play.

With the Giants leading 5-1, Arizona had the bases loaded, nobody out and a run in when pinch-hitter Chris Young smashed a ball down the line. Sandoval made a diving backhand catch that saved two, perhaps three runs. Affeldt then got the final two outs without letting a Diamondback score.

Sandoval looked refreshed after two days off. Bochy sat him in Colorado on Wednesday sensing Sandoval was physically and mentally wiped out, and not having fun.

“It refreshed my mind,” Sandoval said. “He gave me a day off. I didn’t want it, but I enjoyed it and came today, a new day, with a new mind.”

Spending splurge precedes NHL lockout date

The Dallas Stars signed goaltender Kari Lehtonen to a five-year, $29.5 million contract extension ahead of Sunday’s expected lockout, the Washington Capitals locked in defenseman John Carlson for $23.8 million over six years. The Vancouver Canucks signed Alex Burrows to a four-year, $18 million extension.

Including the Phoenix Coyotes’ deal with Shane Doan (four years, $21.2 million), the Detroit Red Wings’ signing of Carlo Colaiacovo (two years, $5 million) and Justin Abdelkader (four years, $7.2 million) and the Nashville Predators’ re-signing of Gabriel Bourque (two years, $1.5 million), NHL teams shelled out $106 million in contracts on the eve of a potential lockout.

STORY: Doan re-signs with Coyotes

Lehtonen, 28, is scheduled to make $4.25 million this season. He became the first goaltender in Stars history to win seven consecutive games to start a season and finished the season allowing two or fewer goals in 37 of his 59 games.

The goaltender is entering his fourth season with the Stars after an injury-filled start to his career with the Atlanta Thrashers. While with the Stars, Lehtonen has tied or set career highs in games played (69), wins (34), save percentage (.922), goals against average (2.33) and minutes played (4,119).

Carlson, 22, a restricted free agent, will earn $3.8 million this season and $4 million per year from the 2013-14 season through 2017-18.

He had nine goals (a career best), 23 assists and 22 penalty minutes in 82 games last season. He made the all-rookie team in 2010-11. He had scored the overtime goal for the USA in the gold-medal game against Canada in the 2010 world junior championships.

“He wanted to make a long-term commitment to the team, and we are delighted that this young man who is an important part of our future will be a member of the club for many years to come,” Capitals GM George McPhee said in a statement.

Burrows had 28 goals and 24 assists in 80 games last season.

“I never really thought about leaving,” Burrows said. “All along, I always wanted to stay in Vancouver. As soon as the management showed interest in an extension, for me it was a no-brainer.”
